    • The North American P-51 Mustang is considered by many to be the best fighter to serve in the Second World War. This mighty aircraft had six fifty caliber machine guns and a 1500hp V12 Rolls Royce Merlin engine. She could out run, out dive, and out climb most of her opposition, making her a feared foe to the Axis forces.

Plane Description:

This P-51D, N2051D serial 44-73454 was constructed in Inglewood California in 1944. She became part of the 169th Fighter Squadron of the Illinois National Guard in 1946. The National Guard unit retired its Mustangs in 1956, and 44-73454 was sold at auction in 1957. The aircraft suffered a gear up landing in 1967. Cavalier Aircraft Corporation repaired the damage in 1968 and converted her to a “Cavalier 2000”. It was most notably owned and flown by the author Richard Bach during her Cavalier days. After a crash landing in 1973, she was restored back to a P-51D-25NA to represent her original construction. The aircraft still retains some of her Cavalier modifications such as the rear seat but much of her structure is original
