Special AirVenture Vehicle Traffic Pattern Designed to Ease Access for Attendees, Residents

June 22, 2011 — In an effort to keep motorists moving toward their intended destinations in a reasonable amount of time, a special traffic pattern will be in place during EAA AirVenture 2011 near its main access point from U.S. 41.

The 59th annual edition of “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” is scheduled for July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

The AirVenture traffic loop, encompassing South Park Ave., 20th Ave., and Washburn St., will have special restrictions and police-controlled intersections to accommodate the high volume of traffic during AirVenture. Designated lanes for local and AirVenture traffic will be established to ease congestion and keep motorists moving along in a safe, orderly fashion.

Although U.S. 41 is in the midst of a major upgrade project this year, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will ensure two lanes of traffic are open in each direction during AirVenture.

Among the important items for AirVenture attendees as well as Oshkosh residents and businesses to note:

          • No AirVenture or U.S. 41 access from South Park Ave. westbound. No thru traffic from South Park Ave. westbound at Koeller St./Knapp Street Rd.  Left turn to local businesses ONLY from 20th Ave. westbound to South Park Ave.

          • No thru traffic from Koeller St. to South Park Ave. Local businesses on Koeller St. may be accessed from 20th Ave.

          • Exit ramps from U.S. 41 to South Park Ave. will be closed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29, and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 30. This is in place to expedite the traffic flow leaving AirVenture during these hours. Exit ramps from U.S. 41 to Wis. 26/Waupun Rd. will remain open during these hours, providing access to the AirVenture grounds from the south via Poberezny Ave.

          • Southbound ramps to and from U.S. 41 at 9th Ave. will be closed throughout AirVenture due to U.S. 41 reconstruction. Northbound ramps to and from U.S. 41 at 9th Ave. will be open, as will the 9th Ave. overpass.

General parking on the AirVenture grounds can be access from the north via South Park Ave., while those who are camping are urged to use the Wis. 26/Waupun Rd. exit from U.S. 41 and approach Camp Scholler from the south.
