EAA Warbirds of America Announces New Program Letter Templates

EAA Warbirds of America frequently receives calls from members seeking advice on writing their “program letters.” Owners of experimental-exhibition category aircraft including warbirds are required to submit “program letters” to the FAA, both upon initial certification and on an annual basis. These program letters outline how and when the aircraft will be used for exhibition purposes.

Now, following a coordinated effort with the FAA Flight Standards Service (both the General Aviation and Commercial Division and the Aircraft Maintenance Division), EAA Warbirds of America has developed standardized templates that will aid its members in writing their program letters.

On May 12, EAA and WOA were notified by Craig Holmes, manager of the Certification and General Aviation Branch, that the industry programs meet FAA program letter requirements, meaning they can be used as standardized program letters to be submitted to a Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) per FAA guidance.

Bill Fischer, EAA Warbirds of America executive director, remarked, “We’re pleased to announce this new member service, which provides our members with a standardized form they can complete and submit to their local FSDO for processing. It eliminates the guesswork from writing the program letters.”

Randy Hansen, EAA government relations director, added, “This is another example of the outstanding constructive working relationship EAA and WOA have with FAA leaders. These new standardized program letters will enable our members to submit more complete and usable documents to their local FSDOs.”

The new program letter templates are available here.
