Participants Sought to Help Celebrate 70th Anniversary of the End of WWII

    December 6, 2013
    – The weekend of August 15 to 16, 2015, will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. Nell Calloway, who is the granddaughter of Gen. Claire Chennault, 1st American Volunteer Group commander and leader of the Flying Tigers, and WWII veteran Jerry Yellin, who flew the P-40, the P-47, and P-51 in combat over Japan from Iwo Jima, are currently working with other members of the warbird community to plan events and activities for this historic occasion.

This annual day of remembrance is the result of a concurrent resolution passed unanimously by Congress in 2010.

As a part of that weekend's activities, EAA Warbirds of America plans a flyover in every local community that has flyable WWII aircraft across the country, to show the American people the planes and airpower that helped win the war, as well as to generate interest for local airpower museums.

A press conference is set for next month - December 20, 2013 - at the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum in Monroe, Louisiana, to announce the events scheduled.

To generate maximum media attention for the event announcement, Warbirds of America hopes to attract as many vintage WWII warbird owners/pilots to attend and participate. If you are interested in being a part of the press conference and/or the flyovers in 2015, please contact Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive and let organizers know. Organizers will keep you abreast of plans and schedules.

Warbirds of America is partnering with the Air Force Association in this endeavor. We are also working with all of the other branches of service, plus the Seabees, the Red Cross, and the Merchant Marines - all of which played such an important part of our gigantic and successful effort to win the war.

We look forward to hearing from you. Visit the Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive website for more information.
