September 5, 2013 - The 50th annual Reno National Championship Air Races take flight September 11-15 at Reno-Stead Airport, with race pilots competing in six classes - Biplane, Formula 1, T-6, Sport, Jet, and the new Unlimited Warbird Racing Class.
EAA will be present at the races, where EAA Founder Paul Poberezny will be honored during Saturday's events.
"As we get ready to mark our 50th year, we are so thrilled that, in addition to one of our best racing fields ever, we are confident that the military will be well-represented at the Reno-Stead Airfield, despite obstacles created by federal cutbacks," said Mike Houghton, president and CEO of the Reno Air Racing Association.
Though sequestration made scheduling military demonstration teams impossible, entertainment at the races will be headlined by the L-39 Patriot Jet Team, composed of former members of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
EAA invites its many members in attendance to stop and visit at the EAA hospitality tent Thursday through Sunday. RSVPs are requested no later than September 6; a valid EAA membership card is required for entry.
The EAA hospitality tent is located at No. 14 in the West Sponsor Village within the pit area. Please note you will need a pit pass to enter this area.
