Potential Safety of Flight Issue - 3M 1300L De-ice Boot Adhesive 3M Scotch Weld 1300L has eliminated Toluene in its flexible adhesive in Europe. The Toluene was replaced with Acetone, which can have a negative effect on foam. Although the change is only mandated in Europe, the FAA Small Airplane Directorate identified one supplier in the U.S. with the revised formula in stock. 1300L, although primarily used for adhering de-ice boots, is also used in the construction of Kitfox aircraft and possibly used in other applications as well. Builders, restorers, and users need to be aware of the change and know how to identify the product with and without toluene. Click on links below for more information: |
