National Warbird Operator Conference
Sets Its Sights on Seattle In February 2005

December 8, 2004 -- Seattle, an aviation-rich city, will be the base of operations for the 11th National Warbird Operator Conference (NWOC) on February 24-27, 2005, when warbird owners, operators, maintenance technicians and enthusiasts gather to further the cause of safety and operating knowledge of civilian-owned ex-military aircraft.

An annual event, NWOC focuses on the exchange of ideas and information to promote the safe operation and restoration of warbird aircraft. This unique educational conference offers programs and presentations by experts in the aviation arena to increase pilot knowledge and skill, expand aircraft maintenance technician and restorer knowledge, develop awareness of medical and insurance facts, and address aircraft-specific topics to ensure continued flight for these historic aircraft. In fact, many of the discussion leaders are actively involved in the warbird community as owners and pilots. As one participant remarked, “…we are not owners of these treasures, but rather caretakers who ensure that future generations can better understand history.” That statement emphasizes the importance of the educational goals of NWOC.

    2005 NWOC Sessions scheduled include:

    Radial and In-line Engine operations

    Aircraft Brakes

    Aero Medical Topic - Hydration

    Cockpit Resource Management

    Insurance Q & A

    Air Show Marketing of Warbirds

    Aircraft Paint

    Airframe Maintenance

In order to capitalize on the educational aspect of the conference, NWOC has enjoyed being hosted in numerous cities where well-respected aviation museums and facilities are located. Seattle is home to many aviation enterprises, so NWOC participants will have several opportunities to augment their learning through enhanced tours of warbird-related businesses. Social events during the conference are also avenues to meet other like-minded members of the warbird community.

NWOC 2003 saw the rollout of the “Warbird Wing,” a tradeshow/exhibit area for companies wishing to market their warbird-related products and services. With additional space in a dedicated room for these displays in 2005, organizations and companies, as well as NWOC attendees, will have greater opportunities to interact and establish contacts with each other.

NWOC ’05 is presented by Cannon Aviation Insurance and sponsored by Air Capital Insurance, Cascade Warbirds, Courtesy Aircraft, EAA Warbirds of America, North American Trainer Association, Precision Engines, US Specialty Insurance, Warbird Digest and Warbird Resource Directory.
