FAA Extends Comment Period for Air Tour NPRM

January 15, 2004 - As a result of pressure from EAA and other industry representatives, the FAA late Wednesday evening agreed to extend the National Air Tour Safety Standards notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) comment period 90 days to April 19, 2004. The comment period was scheduled to end on January 20, 2004.

Doug Macnair, EAA vice president, government relations, applauded the announcement, saying it would allow the public more time to review the proposed rule's implications on air tour operations, charitable sightseeing flights, and vintage aircraft demonstration flights.

The FAA has received over 1,110 comments to this NPRM to date, a firm indication that the public is very concerned about the effects this proposed rule would have on flight safety and the economic well-being of the hundreds of aircraft operators. EAA members wishing to read the submitted comments may do so on the DOT website. (Go to http://dms.dot.gov/search/searchResultsSimple.cfm, then type 4521 in the search block.)
